Creative Writing
Creative writing offers numerous benefits for young people, extending beyond just enhancing their writing abilities. It nurtures emotional well-being by providing a healthy outlet for self-expression and can serve as a calming, mindful activity. Engaging in creative writing encourages reflection, promotes relaxation, and fosters a sense of accomplishment, making it a powerful tool for personal growth.
Reading & Book Groups
The benefits of reading for children and young people are numerous. Books and stories offer alternative perspectives, which are a powerful tool for developing empathy. And let’s face it—an empathic world is a better one! Emotionally intelligent, empathic young people are more likely to build positive relationships.
Inky Storyteller book groups focus on reading for empathy while also building general reading comprehension skills. We spend 4-5 weeks on each book, allowing for a more in-depth exploration of the text. This gives students the opportunity to truly delve into the language, characters, plot, and themes. Key elements of our sessions include discussion, emotion mapping, character relationship analysis, drama, craft activities, and exploring cultural references in the text, such as crafts, celebrations, and food.
